How do you make an abstract painting tell a story?
According to gallery owner and fine art artist, John True, "In your mind you take a still shot of the paint as it moves and runs or dances, jumps, wiggles and swirls. Most abstracts, even good ones, lay still on their canvas. Good composition and color cannot on its own tell a story. If something is moving, it's going somewhere and it's come from somewhere else. That's what a story is."
The story of the paintings shown here in John's words? "For years I painted portraits, landscapes, realism, etc. But I could not get the vision of the moving, dancing, abstract that told a story out of my head. So I decided to drop everything and dedicate myself to experimenting until I made what was in my head appear on the canvas.
These abstracts that are so full of movement and life are the successors of years of failed experimentation. The one I used for the logo of this website is my first success, maybe not the best, but the most cherished, therefore; it ever remains in the collection of the artist. But you can get giclees of it here or other, better originals.
I've included a synopsis of the story of each piece on this web site. Just go to the "Paintings and Sculptures" tab up top, then click on MORE INFO next to the photo of the painting to see the story."
Enjoy!
